EBB-FLOW Energy is developing an entirely new form of Wave Energy Converter, without the big chunks of steel. Typical existing designs consist of a heavy rigid structure which focuses massive loads onto a traditional generator and drivetrain. Instead, our technology uses flexible, mass-manufacturable generating cells, distributed throughout a flexible structure. This shift from a shipbuilding paradigm to one of mass-manufacture offers a promising route to cost reduction, as well as a scaling pathway that can provide solutions for small remote power applications and utility-scale power using the same repeated building block.
